The MAC x Helmut Newton fall 2016 makeup collection is a collaboration between the makeup and the final aesthetics so avidly captured in print. In an effort to provide another interesting collection, MAC has provided the tools for MUAs and makeup lovers to create their own iconic looks or duplicate some of the classic intriguing looks captured by Helmut Newton. Though this is not the first foray into teaming up with a well-known artist, brand or media, it is still a significant match up with a lot of parallels between the reputation of Helmut Newton and MAC as a makeup brand.
This fall makeup collection features some of what accentuates and enhances the women’s appearances in Helmut Newtons photographs and really drew the eye even in black and white. Available online at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s on October 27th, 2016 and in select locations, the MAC x Helmut Newton fall 2016 collection will be available in stores as of November 3rd in North America. If this collection shows up in a location near you, you are very lucky.
MAC Helmut Newton Point ‘n’ Shoot Eyeshadow Quad ($32.00) (Limited Edition)
There is an eyeshadow quad featuring three matte and one satin shadow. This eyeshadow palette is composed of a soft eggshell color named Real Fantasy, a smooth grey named Hard Currency, a rich brown shadow named Influential and finally a black matte shadow bearing the name of the quad – Point ‘n’ Shoot.
MAC Helmut Newton Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($21.00) (Limited Edition)
The lip colors are richly hued shades with the names Chateau M, an intoxicating deep red wine color. Another option in the liquid lip colors option is a more standard red named High Heels, and my personal favorite, Self Portrait – a deliciously intriguing dark plum matte liquid lipstick.
MAC Helmut Newton Studio Nail Lacquer (Limited Edition)
The studio nail lacquers come in a classic red named Monte Carlo, a standout grey by the name of Call Time and Berlin, a rich purple.
Also included in the collection is the Up Ward Black mascara, which comes matched by the liquid eyeliner in Booth Black.
Helmut Newton was well known for his stimulating portrayals of glamour through imagery that has been described as being prolific. Both his works and his opinion are highly regarded although he was very clear when defining his work, stating that “some people’s photography is an art. Mine is not. If they happen to be exhibited in a gallery or a museum, that’s fine. But that’s not why I do them. I’m a gun for hire.”
If you are familiar with his work it is not a surprise that he is also considered the King of Kink. The willingness and drive to be risqué in a medium that is lasting is something that Helmut Newton and MAC Cosmetics definitely share.
Being considered a top contributor for style manuals like Vogue and Vanity Fair is no small feat, but we can certainly see why when reviewing his work. It is very exciting to consider the plethora of makeup looks and tutorials that will come from the release of the MAC x Helmut Newton collaboration.
