Nicole Richie is one of the style icons of in the entertainment industry, who has managed to puzzle the world with her style transformations, going from a party chick to reality TV star and then a fashion and accessories designer and an It-girl. Now, the mother of two tries her hand at perfumes, as she has just released her first signature fragrance, titled Nicole by Nicole Richie.
For her debut fragrance, Nicole has drawn inspiration from her mom, as she told WWD that, “I have a very traditional Southern mom — you never left the house without lotion. Over her lotion went oil and perfume — she was very put together from head to toe. It wasn’t just a one-dimensional smell — there were many different layers”. And to get the desired result, Nicole has collaborated with DeMercado of Fragrance Resources. As for the design of the bottle, Nicole has herself created the design she wanted with the help of designer Dale Brandon Kan.
The Nicole by Nicole Richie fragrance is composed of a mix of sweet and woody ingredients, including and Seville orange, golden amber, Moroccan rose, lily of the valley and papyrus, which together make the heart notes of the scent. The base accords of the perfume feature cashmere woods, sandalwood, sugared patchouli and vanilla. The scent represents a few layers, which let it be different as the hours go by.
Although Nicole considers herself to be a feminine woman, she didn’t want to make the image of her fragrance too girly. This is why she opted for an Art-Deco inspired bottle, which is chic and elegant, sexy and feminine. The outer box of the perfume has an Art Nouveau vintage feel that is timeless and modern.
Talking about the effect she wanted to create, Nicole said that, “I wanted it to represent different layers of a woman, which is what I try to do with Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960. I’m very particular in the way that I create. We’re in an interesting time right now where women aren’t just one thing — there are many different parts to a woman. So I wanted to create a very intricate bottle that was still elegant, but not so in-your-face girly at the same time.”
The Nicole by Nicole Richie perfume’s advertising shot will be done by Anthony Mandler and will debut in September, 2012. The fragrance will come in two sizes, 1.7 oz. and 3.4 oz., which will retail for about $55 respectively $69. The line will also include a body lotion and a bath and shower gel for all those who want to get a complete set.
