Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trends

Colors make the base of the trends, the most important aspects in the fashion world, which define, underline and shape each and every creation. Colors can’t be touched, but they can touch us, make us feel and look different. Without colors the world of fashion would be a boring place. The new fall/ winter 2012-2013 fashion season brings a myriad of luxurious shades worth investing in and experimenting. Aristocratic wine, seductive cobalt, noble mustard and conservative gray are the basic shades of the season, which takes us back to the glamorous fashion world of the 1950s, while a little paler and elegant shades revive the classic Hollywood style. So here we present you the fall/ winter 2012-2013 color trends, around which you can build a super-fashionable wardrobe.

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #1: Wine Colors: Windsor wine, Bordeaux, Burgundy – the wine colors, no doubt, dominate the fashion scene this year, symbolizing the classiness and elegance of Old Hollywood style and the ‘50s. Fashion designers, who enjoyed the bright shades of red in summer, filled their autumnal collections with the deep shades of maroon, appearing on glossy patent leather, like at Alexander Wang and Acne, as well as on noble wool and cashmere, like at Haider Ackermann, Gucci, Chloe and Rodarte.
What to wear wine colors with: Wine colors look especially chic on evening attire options, accompanied by black patent leather, pointy shoes and dark makeup. Wine trench or wine coat can be an excellent addition to the fall wardrobe and suit almost any style and mood.

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #2: Cobalt Colors: Glamorous cobalt is the queen in the fall/winter collections of many leading designers. Sexy, independent and eye-catching, this color adds intrigue to any look, whether it’s a full-time office outfit or an elegant evening dress. Ideally combined with black, cobalt blue appears on the tight-fitting dresses, straight trousers with arrows featuring disco glitter details and abbreviated jackets and boleros of the cold-season collections of Preen, Miu Miu, Erdem, Stella McCartney, Rachel Roy, Prabal Gurung and many others.
What to wear cobalt colors with: Cobalt hues look great with black, gray, red and even orange (creating a fascinating colorblock). Match a cobalt blue dress with a bright orange clutch, red nails and scarlet lips and your way this fall will hardly go by unnoticed!

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #3: Ultra-violet: One of the major colors of the new cold season is the rich and languid ultraviolet. The trend doesn’t only rely on the basic wardrobe elements, but overpowers itself through head to toe ultraviolet outfits. Everything, from classic office pants to lush cocktail dresses studded with crystals and stones, as well as everyday bags, ankle boots and evening clutches, is shrouded in the mysterious shine of ultraviolet, adding interest to the gloomy fall mood. Among designers who celebrated this vibrant hue in their collections are Christopher Kane, Prada, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Versus, Alberta Ferretti and Roksanda Ilincic.
What to wear ultraviolet with: Ultraviolet looks good day and night, especially when complemented by glossy black leather or suede, as well as in the company of green, brown and mustard. Don’t forget about the makeup – wear a purple dress with lilac eyeshadows and lilac mascara, adding elegance and a trendy disco flair to your autumnal image.

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #4: Mustard Colors: Another bright accent in fall 2012 is the mustard, which appears especially on the straight coats, elongated jackets, woolen dresses and knitted sweaters. Designers at Chanel and Lanvin combine mustard with violet to create a vintage mood, while the new collection of Miu Miu shows dark mustard combined with dirty-brown on long double-breasted jacket and trousers with arrows, this way brightening up the office wear outfits. Louis Vuitton brings typical mustard on a long pencil skirt and a shorter jacket with accentuated shoulders.
What to wear mustard with: As already stated above, mustard can be paired with purple, as well as brown and dark green. Mustard looks effective on the upper clothing pieces and skinny pants, matched with high heel boots. A nail polish and eyeshadow in the color of the main outfit ideally finish off the look.

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #5: Gray Colors: Finally austere gray is on trend this fall! On the silk dresses at Christian Dior gray comes with a fashionable metallic finish, while on the bulky knitted sweaters at Calvin Klein it is dotted with black accents. Fendi brings a light gray, which appears on typical office wear outfits. At Maison Martin Magiela, gray resembles wet asphalt and appears on the minimalist coats. Be sure that the time of gray mice is left behind and this fall it’s time for glamorous, elegant and independent gray.
What to wear gray with: Gray can be worn with almost any other color. The classic combination of dark gray and black looks the most effective, especially when the glossy patent black leather is so trendy. Add some bright accessory to gray, whether it’s an impressive bag or boots.

Fall/ Winter 2012-2013 Color Trend #6: Pale Pink: Despite the fact that pastel shades were so popular in spring/summer 2012, in the beginning of fall, they have completely lost their fame. However, one of them, pale pink, has made a triumphant return thanks to Сomme des Garçons, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta. Pale pink looks impressive with the black and gray knitted sweaters and cardigans, skirts longer than midi, as well as ponchos and woolen coats.
What to wear pale pink with: Pale pink best goes with classic black and is especially impressive on the doll dresses with free waistline, as well as bulky poncho-coats with slits for the hands. Hats, gloves and handbags in a smoky-pink color will add sophistication and a retro flair to the look. Don’t forget about the pale pink makeup, barely visible on the porcelain skin.

The fall/ winter 2012-2013 color trends also bring such chic tones as chocolate, dark green, neutral tones, shades of red, orange, metallic tones and, of course, timeless black. Thus, there is something for any taste and preferences.
