Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trends
Every new season, world-famous fashion designers add new accents, details and a surprising variety of colors, prints and patterns to their new season collections in order to stand out with their one-of-a-kind, masterpiece-like creations and make us get surprised at the endless capabilities of the fashion world. While the color trends give the general view of the new season, prints and patterns come to make things more interesting, exciting and unique. The new spring/ summer 2013 print trends promise us a super-cheerful and bright spring featuring a firework of lovely patterns, from our favorite florals and geometric touches to bold and flashy art prints.
Overall, the spring/ summer 2013 print trends are all about abstract motifs and the totality of the images. This season, prints appear on almost any garment, from dresses, skirts and other clothing pieces to handbags, shoes and elaborate accessories. Geometry is the leading style, as we see lots of stripes, polka dots, checks and abstract geometric patterns. Still, our old favorites, animal prints and florals, continue to enjoy a big popularity. Let’s have a peek at the top spring/ summer 2013 trendy prints and make our new wardrobes even more vibrant and colorful!
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #1: Ethnic Prints: Ethnic motifs, like Aztec prints and tribal patterns, were present in all the four fashion capitals not only in terms of prints, but also designs. Many designers created clothing pieces inspired from the East, while ethnic prints and patterns come to be the best way of embracing the new tendency. Unique ethnic prints were presented by Dolce & Gabbana and Isabel Marant.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #2: Victorian Prints: Perhaps the most elaborate and the most impressive prints of the season are the ones inspired from Italian paintings, art and historic puppet theatres. Dolce & Gabbana is the designer, who brought the trend of Victorian prints, painting the new D&G clothing pieces with fragments of famous paintings, as well as with Sicilian vase and puppet theatre prints.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #3: Floral Prints: Flower prints have been on trend for a few successive seasons already, yet we can never have enough of this charming and romantic trend. This spring, you can opt for clothing pieces printed with a single flower, like shown at Prada, or a combination of various flowers of different colors, sizes and styles, as displayed in the newest collections of Anna Sui, Blugirl, Ralph Lauren or Desigual.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #4: Paisley Prints: We love those bohemian paisley prints so much! Thanks to Isabel Marant, PPQ, Normaluisa and others, this spring too paisley prints are among the trendiest patterns.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #5: Animal Prints: Animal prints are the choice of a sexual, modern and self-confident woman. From leopard prints to snakeskin prints both in their natural colors and in more summery colorful manners, animals are still a big hit for the new season (Learn How to Wear Animal Prints). As long as we have Roberto Cavalli, animal prints are sure to be trendy. Besides the classic animal patterns, this season, many designers opted for new, extraordinary techniques, bringing blurry animal prints, ones in the form of a logo, as well as with optical illusions. And as always, animal prints appear both on the clothing pieces and fashion accessories, including shoes and bags. For natural leopard prints, look to Anna Sui, Rachel Zoe and Just Cavalli, for more colorful options, you can draw inspiration from Christian Dior, Carlos Miele, Kenzo and others. Reptile prints were present at Salvatore Ferragamo, Gianfranco Ferré and Gucci.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #6: Abstract Prints: Sticking to the abstract theme of the new season, many designers brought the trend of abstract prints. A chaotic mix of prints in all the possible shades of the rainbow always looks unique and this season such patterns become so fashionable due to Louise Gray, Proenza Schouler, Mara Hoffman and others.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #7: Stripes: No wonder, geometric prints are at their highest point this spring. Both horizontal and vertical, thin and wide, in the traditional black and white options and in all the other possible colors, stripes hit the city streets this spring/ summer 2013 season. They appear on almost any garment this year. You can go for either a head to toe striped outfit or just pick a small piece in stripes (Learn How to Wear Stripes). All those big fans of stripes can draw inspiration from Christian Dior, Etro, Moschino, Chloé, Giles, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana and others.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #8: Checkered Patterns/ Plaid: Checkered clothes instantly refresh a female wardrobe. Next to stripes, this year checkered patterns and plaid/ tartan also look extremely voguish. Some designers opted for black and white checkered prints, or ones in earth tones (beige, brown, cream), while others decided to cheer things up bringing colorful options. Checkered prints were seen at Louis Vuitton, Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Marni, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Balmain and others’ fashion shows.
Spring/ Summer 2013 Print Trend #9: Polka Dots: Polka dots are perhaps the most feminine, romantic and flirtiest patterns. And since geometry reigns in the new season, polka dots join all those stripes, checkered prints, plaids and tartans. Chanel created polka dots with pearls, giving a lovely vintage allure to those clothing pieces, while Diane von Furstenberg came to support the retro trend by using small circles both on the clothing pieces and on the sandals. Giorgio Armani and Versus are other designers, who gave preference to the geometric polka dots.
While the new spring/ summer 2013 color trends are already rich and gorgeous in themselves, and we all know the fashion rule that “Less is More”, let’s agree that with prints and patterns life becomes more exciting. Pick your favorite motifs from the spring/ summer 2013 print trends and dare to stand out in the plain crowd this spring!
